What about CPT codes?
CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) is the five-digit numeric code set for physician and outpatient services, and it is HCPCS Level I. Unlike ICD-10 and HCPCS Level II, CPT is not a public code set: it is created, copyrighted and licensed by the American Medical Association, and its official descriptions may not be republished without a license. That is why this site covers ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS and HCPCS Level II in full, and CPT not at all.
What you can still do with a CPT code here
- Understand the claim around it: the diagnosis codes that justify a CPT service are ICD-10-CM, and they are all searchable here. Medical necessity lives in the diagnosis, not the procedure code.
- See what hospitals charge for it: our sister site HospitalPriceBook.com publishes hospital prices organized by CPT and HCPCS code, taken from each hospital's own price transparency file.
- Find the Level II companions: drugs, supplies and DME billed alongside a CPT service carry HCPCS Level II codes - search them from the homepage.
Where official CPT information lives
The AMA publishes CPT through its own books and licensed products, and CMS publishes CPT-based payment files (such as the Physician Fee Schedule) that show relative values and payment indicators without the licensed long descriptions. If a website shows full CPT long descriptions for free, it is either licensed or it should not - either way, this site stays on the public code sets.
